Abstract:

Dolosse are concrete armor units used for the cover layer on many breakwaters and jetties. In order to study their complex loads and structural response, a prototype study at Crescent City, CA, has been initiated as part of a rehabilitation project. Before any new 42-ton dolos units were placed on the breakwater, three units were subjected to a series of tests. These test results, which were primarily used to determine dynamic structural responses, were then compared with results from a numerical model.
