The Applicability of Satellite Altimetry Data to Tidal Models

Abstract:

Different tidal regimes require different data assimilation schemes. In all cases, however, it is better to perform a separate tidal solution before assimilation. For proper assimilation of altimeter data in shelf and estuarine regions, it is very important to be able to solve for tides along a single repeated ground track. The Topex/Poseidon mission will be an important source of data for assimilation into tidal models.
