An Efficient, Accurate Technique for Navier-Stokes Solution

Abstract:

Solution of the Navier-Stokes equations for a Newtonian, incompressible fluid (such as water) requires both accuracy in the assuring conservation of mass and efficiency of convergence. Presented is a finite-difference based numerical solution technique which is believed to assuage both of these considerations. The technique employs the explicit predictor-corrector scheme of MacCormack while solving the governing two-dimensional equations of motion on a staggered grid analogy. Efficiency through convergence acceleration is achieved through the use of a flux-based multigrid approach. Preliminary results showing the validity of the scheme for an inviscid model problem are presented.
