Abstract:

The State of Washington Department of Ecology is in its third year of implementation of a comprehensive, multi-faceted program to facilitate informed wetlands management. This program consists of several elements including technical and financial assistance, education and public outreach, regulation and enforcement, along with research. The program has many goals but the one most basic to comprehensive resource management is that of changing the public's perception of wetlands as wastelands in need of development, to one in which wetlands are appreciated and understood as a threatened, valuable natural resources.
