Coastal Zone Management Programmes in Barbados and Grenada

Abstract:

This paper discusses two islands, Barbados and Grenada, where government funded coastal zone management programmes have been set up and are being implemented. These programmes are discussed in detail, in particular the reasons why they were started and the major characteristics of the individual programmes. It is hoped that these islands will become models for other islands in the region. Barbados and Grenada will still need overseas assistance in the field of coastal zone management, but now they have their own programmes underway, they are in a position where they can derive the maximum benefit from overseas funded projects.
