Abstract:

The increasing concentration of population and industry on coastal areas, is making greater demands for coastal disposal. However, the coastal waters are also used for recreation, and thus higher standards of purity are required. Inadequate disposal practices have often resulted in contamination problems. Controlling of such problems relies on a clear understanding of the basic phenomena involved. This paper presents the fundamentals of turbulent diffusion and mixing of waste in coastal waters.
