Abstract:

Monitoring groundwater quality near sources of pollution in the southwest commonly involves highly productive alluvial aquifers. Experience in monitoring in such a setting indicates that different techniques are applicable than are commonly used in humid areas, where less productive formations are present and water levels are shallower. The use of monitor wells of adequate diameter, drilled by water well drilling contractors, is highly preferred. In addition, it is preferable to collect water samples by pumping after a minimum amount of time, normally one or two hours.
