Abstract:

An odor control study was performed in a wastewater treatment plant in California to evaluate the interactive role of various factors tailored to site specific conditions. The scope of the study included the following: (1) Identify and prioritize the sources of odors using EBMUD historical odor data and on-site investigations. (2) Review of current odor control practices at the WWTP. (3) Evaluation of alternative odor control techniques. (4) Development of a phased program for odor control at the WWTP. Viable alternatives were compiled into immediate and long range action plans. A long-term odor monitoring program was developed to determine the effectiveness of the odor control measures as they are implemented over time. The article describes the implementation and other details of the program.
