Abstract:

In situ measurements of stresses and pore pressures on a model pile shaft, the Piezo-Lateral Stress (PLS) cell, are utilized to reconstruct the conditions of load tests involving two large scale pipe piles at a site in Empire, LA. Results show that, in addition to providing vital data regarding the fundamental behavior of pile shafts, the PLS cell represents a valuable predictive tool for estimating the capacity of friction piles.
