Reliability of Pile Capacity Assessment by CPT in Overconsolidated Clay

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Use of In Situ Tests in Geotechnical Engineering

Abstract:

Correlations for unit skin friction and end bearing are established between cone penetration test (CPT) records, triaxial data and a small data base of measured skin friction and end bearing values for driven piles at a site consisting of layers of overconsolidated clay. Approximate relations between factors of safety and reliability for use with these correlations are established, including the effect of uncertainty in applied load.
