Abstract:

This paper briefly describes renovation and expansion of the coal and phosphate marine terminal in Davant, La. The program included: replacement of existing berths damaged by marine accident; underpinning and jacking of existing undermined marine structure; rebuilding of existing unloading pier; building of replacement pier extension, marine platforms, breasting and mooring dolphins and walkways; new conveyor driver and take-up foundations; new coal sampling systems; subsoil improvement in new coal storage yard and track foundation for new stacker/reclaimer; soil-cement slab in new coal storage yard; study of shear failures in the original coal yard and guidelines for stacking coal up to 70 feet high.
