Abstract:

The present single level concept of pier construction limits the pier-side service to the fleet. With the ever increasing requirements for utilities to the ships, and maintenance and training operations on the piers, piers are becoming more and more congested resulting in reduced efficiency. The double level pier concept offers a solution to the congestion problem by clearing the upper deck of all electrical transformers, pier to ship utility connections, utility hoses and cables, and utility maintenance activity. This dual level concept effectively doubles the length of pier to ship contact. The pier is scheduled for completion in November 1986.
