by Nishikant R. Vaidya, P. C. Rizzo & Associates Inc, Pittsburgh, PA, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Recent Advances in Structural Dynamics

Abstract:

This technical paper summarizes the results of some of the recent studies performed to assure technical feasibility in isolating safety-related nuclear power plant structures. The particular application of the base isolation concept discussed here has undergone extensive licensing considerations in France, South Africa, and Iran. It has been deemed sound and a viable means to reduce the earthquake effects on structures and equipment.
