Abstract:

The art of designing machine foundations, supporting vibratory load has changed from the approximate rule-of-thumb to the scientifically sound engineering procedure. However, the vast majority of the practicing engineers do not feel comfortable with this newly evolved scientific approach. There are numerous technical books and papers written on this subject but unfortunately very few have been successful in presenting the material cohesively and in a manner understandable to most of the practicing engineers to carry out the analysis. An attempt is made to introduce the dynamics of the machine foundation in a concise and easy-to-understand manner for the practicing engineers who have a basic knowledge of the mechanical vibration.
