Arch Dams for Small Hydroelectric Sites

by Daniel Dicker, State Univ of New York at Stony, Brook, Stony Brook, NY, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Waterpower '85

Abstract:

Approximate formulas are developed for the design of small arch dams. These designs, although conservative, frequently allow for economies over other dam types. Considered are: an approximate approach to pure arch action, an arch restrained by beam action at the crown, and an arch-cantilever design.
