Abstract:

Facility effluents, runoff, sewage and manmade constituents entering bays and streams can provide a source of nutrients which can support the growth of odor producing benthic or planktonic populations. These odors can be a nuisance and in some instances can cause health impacts to surrounding communities. A case study involving Flushing Bay and Creek in Queens, New York which typifies these conditions is discussed in this paper.
