Abstract:

Activated sludge plants are designed on the basis of stationary tests at laboratory scale for constant organic loads and constant input flows. From these tests the kinetic parameters are determined. The settling characteristics of sludge are obtained in columns in a static way. By working in this way it leads to doubts on the final plant design, which is generally oversized. As an intermediate step before final plant design, a scale physical model of the same design was suggested to study system behavior in the case of organic load and input flow alterations. With the first results, the oxygen transferred by Hp and by hour, was better adjusted in relation to primary design. Also, it was found that it is possible to process up to 40% more inflow, without a decrease in the system efficiency if the recycling conditions are changed. (Author abstract. )
