Abstract:

The elastic critical load of a structural frame is a fundamental parameter in assessing its stability. It is an upper bound to the failure load of the frame, in the same way that the Euler load is an upper bound to the failure load of a pin-ended strut. A program for computing the critical load is described. Written in a simple form of Basic, the program will run on most microcomputers and is designed to be short, reliable in convergence and easy to use.
