Abstract:

The development of the Arctic Offshore oil fields has led to the consideration of gravel islands or other structures to support oil production facilities. The island and the assembly site do not impose any limits on module sizes. The only limitation is imposed by the barge carrying capacity, barge deck size and land transportation. It is feasible to build and transport large Jumbo Modules. The Jumbo Modules do allow accommodation of complete equipment groupings and make the module almost self contained. The design leads to a compact multi-story module and considerable savings in materials and construction costs. With the present state of the art in transportation, the Jumbo Modules are only suitable for short distance land transportation. The new development is the deeper girders and new system of support columns.
