Abstract:

This article is a primer on microcomputers. It's intended for the many small and medium sized consultants and others in the civil engineering field who may be considering the purchase of a microcomputer. This article will help to remove the mystery from numerous computer buzz words�from input and memory to read-only memory and random-access memory; from machine language to mass storage media; from dot-matrix printer to operating system; from programming language compilers and interpreters to hard disk.
