Influence of Driver’s Behavioral Characteristics on the Capacity of Urban Road Section

Abstract: With the rapid development of China’s economy, the car number has increased sharply, novice drivers also appear in large numbers in the road. The experienced and novice drivers differ in driver’s behavioral characteristics, by which the capacity of urban road section will be influenced. In this paper, a car following experiment was designed to obtain the behavioral parameters of Chinese drivers, such as following distance, speed, etc., and then by the experimental data processing, the similarities and differences between experienced and novice drivers in terms of headway and time headway was analyzed, and get the relationship between them and speed. At last, a calculation model of road capacity based on the headway and time headway was established and based on the experimental data. A conclusion is obtained that with the increase of novice driver proportion the capacity will decrease.
