Abstract: Although several whole-farm socioeconomic optimization models have been developed to deal with lump planning issues in the agriculture sector, far too little attention has been paid to distribute over the farm scale planning. Cropping pattern is one of the most important design and performance parameters in irrigation management that is in direct relationship with water use efficiency and optimal allocation of soil and water resources. For proper spatial and temporal allocation of water resources, decision support systems are needed to assist and facilitate decision making process. In Fars Province in Iran, the major source of water supply for agriculture is groundwater resources (about 83%). This percentage reveals the fact that Fars has high reliance on groundwater and this resource has been over exploited in recent years. Therefore, it is necessary to optimize groundwater utilization. The proposed SDSS framework is based on spatial farm database (agricultural digital cadastre) and could help farm managers in selection of crops to plant and in allocation of each type of crops with close coordinating with macro policies (country or region) and micro policies (farm).
