Abstract:

There's been a boom in bike sales. Many new towns feature bike and pedestrian pathways. Many Americans are concerned about their health because they get too little exercise. Growing numbers see bike riding and walking as ways to change things. And the problems of urban traffic congestion, air pollution, and energy all make biking and walking more attractive. Finally, FHWA now makes money available for bikeways. A staff roundup describing notable pathways, plus do's and don'ts of bikeway design.
