Abstract: The grouting of rock used to be a quite empirical constructional technique aimed to improve somewhat the physical properties of the masses which are actually part of the civil engineering project. Different "grouting schools" or "ways of thinking" did develop and a considerable number of recipes were dictated by "great old men" and enforced later on by regulations of any kind. Only in the last decades the grouting process started to be studied in a more scientific way and a number of well-founded results are now on hand. Nevertheless, improvements are still possible and even required so to be put into practice in order to optimise the grouting process in adapting it better to the actual rock conditions as well as to the real objectives of the project.
