Abstract:

In June 2001, Tropical Storm Allison struck Texas, subjecting the Houston area to one of the most destructive floods in U.S. history. As part of the recovery effort, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Harris County Flood Control District collaborated to rapidly update the county's data on flood risks. A year later the Tropical Storm Allison Recovery Project team has made substantial progress in developing technically advanced floodplain information that will guide recovery efforts and, it is hoped, reduce damage in future floods.
