Document type: Conference Proceeding Paper
Part of: Coastal Engineering 2000
Abstract: Eighteen years ago, in the 18th International Conference on Coastal Engineering, held in Cape Town — SA, a paper on the subject of the "Littoral Problems in the Portuguese West Coast" was presented. It concerned a coastal stretch 110 km long, the littoral process of which was characterized in detail; a rough wave climate, a strong potential littoral transport and a heavy erosion process were (are) the main features to be pointed out. A general sea defense plan, including more than 60 structures, was briefly referred to. This paper aims at the comparison between the morphology of the beaches of Espinho, as predicted in the project phase, and the reality of today, 18 years after the construction of the defense scheme.
