Abstract: The main purpose of the present article is to exhibit the power and potential of the initial values method by means of the solution of a crucial problem. First, the initial values method is presented and a general carryover matrix is obtained for plane rods loaded perpendicular to their plane. Then an example is solved and the advantages of the method are depicted.
