Abstract:

While design/build's popularity has grown this decade, the notion that engineers and architects cannot manage the project has remained. Typically heavily capitalized contractors lead projects where the designer's role is reduced. But engineers and architects can lead design/build projects if they structure the deal correctly, even if they don't have huge capital reserves. Careful structuring of the contracts combined with intelligent project management can let engineers and architects lead design/build projects and enjoy all the benefits that go along with it.
