| Abstract: |
A compilation of peer-reviewed papers, Optimal Performance of Civil Infrastructure Systems, features the recent advances in optimization as applied to civil infrastructure systems (CIS). The critical importance of concepts and methods of optimization in the design of new facilities or replacement, repair, and retrofit of existing CIS is stressed. The volume examines a wide range of topics including: 1) optimal allocation of resources for preventive interventions on bridges; 2) optimal land use and transportation planning; 3) life-cycle cost analysis with natural hazard risk for water systems; 4) optimum policies for reliability assurance of aging structures; 5) optimal reliability-based bridge management and optimal seismic design based on life-cycle cost; 6) symptom based reliability and health monitoring of civil systems; 7) optimal design of structures under dynamic loads; and 8) multiobjective optimization and optimal repair planning using genetic algorithms. |
