Abstract:

The U.S. Open, which takes place in New York City at the end of August each year, is one of four prestigious Grand Slam tennis events drawing players and fans from around the world, and has grown in popularity every year. In the latter part of the last decade, to accommodate increasing crowds, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) decided to expand and upgrade the facilities at the National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, where the tournament has been held since 1977. An integral part of this project was designing a foundation that addressed the complex history of the tournament site.
