Abstract:

A new simple method for predicting dispersion coefficient by using hydraulic and geometric data easily obtained in natural streams has been developed. Dimensional analysis was implemented to select physically meaningful parameters that are to be included in the new equation for predicting longitudinal dispersion in natural streams. One-step Huber method, which is one of the nonlinear multi-regression methods, was applied to derive a new dispersion coefficient equation. The new dispersion coefficient equation was proven to be superior in explaining dispersion characteristics of natural streams more precisely compared to the existing equations.
