Storm Drainage GIS, Modeling, and Master Planning for the City of Berkeley

Abstract:

The City of Berkeley has completed its Storm Sewer Master Plan. The master plan com bined the findings of field inspection worig computer-based mapping, and geographic information system (GIS) technology to develop an integrated long-range capital im provements program (CIP) for the City. The project took a total of 2 years to complete. The steps in performing the analysis included field investigations and map review to de velop the storm drainage system mapping and inventoiy. A facility mapping system was linked to EPA's SWMM model to provide the tool necessary for performing the hydraulic analysis. The resulting model and interface allows the City to update the model inventory as the mapping is updated. Model results including hydraulic grade lines, flooding locations, flood durations, and other parameters of interest are graphically displayed.
