Abstract:

Engineering guidelines for the design of stable rock armored channels are well established. However, few guidelines exist for designers involved with the reconstruction of channels with attributes which approach those found in natural stream environments. The utilization of simple geomorphic paradigms, in combination with established hydraulic approaches, may lead to reasonable solutions for channel design. Using a case study for example, the design of a 1,220 meter (4,000 foot) alluvial channel and floodway using this combined approach is discussed.
