Abstract:

This is the first report of colonization of soil by small numbers of a genetically engineered microorganism. The study suggests that the addition of small inocula of D5 to contaminated soil might effect in situ bioremediation, as the strain survives in soil and grows to appreciable densities at the expense of a pollutant that is present at low concentrations.
