Abstract: This paper presents the background, development, purpose and scope, and table of contents of the recently completed standard, SEI/ASCE 37-02 Design Loads on Structures During Construction. It is the first in the sequence of four papers on SEI/ASCE 37-02. The other three, authored by others, in this sequence are: Loads and Load Combinations in SEI/ASCE 37-02, Construction Loads in SEI/ASCE 37-02, and Environmental Loads in SEI/ASCE 37-02.
