Abstract: Latex modified concrete (LMC) overlays are placed over normal concrete substrates to increase the life of bridge decks. However, the property mismatch between these two concrete types gives rise to interfacial stresses that cause premature delaminations, corner lifting, and cracking. No systematic studies are available to properly evaluate the placement process and failure mode of LMC overlays at prototype scale. This study measures and evaluates the bond-strength, displacements, and delaminations of the interface during the entire placement and curing process. The findings will be used for full-scale studies and developing performance based specifications to eliminate or reduce the potential interface failures.
