Abstract: Trenchless assessment and rehabilitation will continue to find major use in pipeline asset management. Compared to a handful of such technologies being available to either the city manager or an industrial client a decade ago, nowadays, we have hundreds of technology holders in the market place. More and more clients are opting to privatize their underground pipeline network. So, the net outcome is clients want the most done for the least cost. The relationships among licensees and licensors are also eroding very rapidly to the point that many licensors are going back and buying their proprietary rights from their installers having seen the profit margins drop significantly in the past few years. It's practically a price war in this business of pipeline renewal by trenchless technology and the market will go through a major consolidation resulting in a few winners and many losers. Although the American trenchless renovation market is huge, most companies will lose in the American contracting climate, given the harshly competitive environment. Then, who will win and stay in this market or in any market for that matter? For example: the market in the coming years will decide whether spiral-wound pipe technology can either compete or offer something superior against either Cast-in-Place-Pipe or Fold-and-Form technology? This paper will highlight the evolution of the trenchless pipe rehabilitation business and will provide bold predictions of this market for the next 10 years.
