Abstract: Very much in keeping with its setting, the new north bridge on Florida’s Boca Grande Causeway, like its predecessor, spans the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. Constructing the new bridge’s swing span presented a number of challenges with regard to environmental preservation and infrastructure resiliency. But perhaps none was so daunting as working within the operating radius of the existing swing span.
