Abstract: Careful collaboration on the part of the owner, the engineers, the builders, and, perhaps most important of all, city residents has resulted in an innovative and highly prized bridge over the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon. The crossing is the first cable-stayed bridge in the United States intended solely for mass transit vehicles, bicyclists, and pedestrians.
