Part of: Guidelines for the Design of Cable-Stayed Bridges

Abstract:

For seismic design of cable-stayed bridges, the following characteristics are of importance: The cable-stayed bridges consist of various components with different structural properties; The fundamental natural period is generally long and the structural damping is low, as compared with girder, truss, or arch bridges having the same span length; and with the increase of span length, the nonlinearity and three-dimensional motion of the structure may no longer be ignored.
