The expansion of London's British Museum neatly slipped 18,000 m2 of new space—consisting of five levels above grade and as many as six below—into a tight footprint partially surrounded by the facility's historically protected buildings. The new World Conservation and Exhibitions Centre combines a special exhibition gallery, collection storage space, research laboratories, conservation studios, offices, and more while carefully protecting the original structures.
