Abstract: Used cautiously, fisheries statistics can be invaluable to sanitary engineer in evaluating claims that waste discharges are responsible for declining or fluctuating fisheries resources; after describing types of data encountered (catch, catch per unit of effort, actual populations, time of occurrence), proper and improper uses of statistics are shown in 9 illustrations.
