Abstract: Conclusions of study on collapse of bridge; occurrence is not only mere consequence of error in design but also manifestation of effects of some factors not yet fully appreciated; inapplicability of column formulas for design of webs of grillage beams in buckling; weakening effect of plywood pads interposed in grillage; general inadequacy of column formula given by Canadian Specifications CSA, 1952.
