Abstract:

Damping of unsteady flow through dam or levee with horizontal underdrain, when head behind it is raised considerably, is treated analytically and tested in Hele-Shaw model; slow and rapid rises from low level to final full level are considered; numerical examples; analytical and experimental results compare well.
