Abstract:

Direct method of structural design; interaction diagram developed gives fiber stress and deflection of arch cross section as function of its dimensions; it is analogous to structural interaction diagram for statically determinate structure, namely beam column; design method illustrated by design of quarter point sections of following steel arch bridges: 2-hinged rainbow, Bayonne, and hingeless rainbow.
