Abstract:

This paper documents the development of a relatively easy to use set of effective plastic moment expressions and compares the performance of these equations with a series of experimental tests. The paper then details simplified inelastic design procedures that may be used for the analysis of continuous span I girders with compact webs, compact, noncompact, or slender webs, and with Lb ? Lpd. Lastly a design example is presented and a comparison is made between a mechanism based effective plastic moment approach and a rigorous inelastic solution based on the use of actual M-?p for a girder cross-section.
