Abstract: This paper explores corrosion and its prevention through the use of cathodic protection. It defines the principles of cathodic protection and explains in a simplified way how cathodic protection can mitigate corrosion. It should eliminate the misunderstandings about the complexity and perceived expense of the installation of cathodic protection systems. Cathodic protection is a proven technique for mitigating corrosion. There is nothing mysterious or cryptic related to diminishing corrosion on metallic pipelines with this technology.
