Abstract: Practices in abutment and foundation treatment for high embankment dams on rock as used by the California Department of Water Resources are presented. After a brief description of three dams (Oroville Dam, Cedar Springs Dam and Pyramid Dam) and their foundation geology, criteria and practices are considered for foundation excavation, cleanup, grouting and surface preparation.
