Abstract:

This proceedings, Aesthetics in the Constructed Environment, contains papers presented at the 24th Annual Conference of ASCE's Water Resources Planning and Management Division held in Houston, Texas on April 6-9, 1997. The major theme of the conference was focused on the creative integration of aesthetics, water, and human needs into the planning and development of engineered projects. Considerable attention was given to watershed based issues, with a one day track devoted to Watershed Management in a Sensitive Environment. International events included a Symposium on engineering and water management issues surrounding the implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreements. Papers presented at the conference covered such topics as: 1) Aesthetics; 2) legal issues; 3) floods and droughts; 4) urban drainage; 5) ground water; 6) water and the environment; 7) internet information sharing; and 8) flood control and recreation.
