Abstract:

Developments in remote-monitoring technology provide new options for cost-effective management of prestressed and post-tensioned reinforcement systems. A case study shows how engineers achieve significant cost savings by combining conventional and new methods of inspecting and monitoring reinforcement tendons. The dictum If you can't measure it, you can't manage it applies as much to structures as it does to business. As our ability to measure structural deterioration improves, so will our ability to manage it.
